It seems that the idea of “why” is one that gets tossed around a lot, especially in the areas of:
- Goal setting. Having a strong emotional connection with your goals (a strong why) makes you more willing to go through whatever discomfort is required to achieve it.
- Purpose of why you do what you do. There’s always the answer of “I have to earn a living somehow.” There are lots of ways to make money, what is it that drew you to real estate?
The why of goal setting is a bit shorter in scope. I want to sell X number of houses so that I can pay off my credit cards. The emotional connection is the stress I feel just knowing that debt is out there. To get rid of that stress I am willing to make the sales calls that I need to. These types of Whys are accomplished and new ones set. They can be large or small, one week or ten years.
Your bigger “why” is not something that gets achieved and set again. This is the purpose for your being. For me, I thrive on being the absolute best that I can be. I’m obsessive about the client having a perfect experience, at least the parts that I control. I love to create systems that make both possible. This fits so well with being a real estate agent and guiding people through the largest transaction of their life. What a meaningful frame work for becoming my best and giving great service!
What about you? What are your whys?
